The 2nd joint meeting co-organized by the Hepatocyte User Group (HUG) and the Medicon Valley Hepatocyte User Forum (MV-HUF) was held in Montpellier (France) on October 22-23, 2010.
The aim of HUG and MV-HUF is to gather researchers from both academics and industries, working in the field of hepatocyte biology including isolation, culture, differentiation, stem cell, and hepatocyte use in clinical, basic and applied research. Over the last decades, hepatocyte cultures have emerged as a major tool for investigating liver physiopathology and diseases. In this last respect, the primary culture of adult human hepatocyte has become the gold standard model in different fields such as endogenous compound metabolism, drug/xenobiotic metabolism and transport, drug side effects and toxicity. Last meetings in these series included the 1st joint HUG/MV-HUF meeting held in Copenhagen in 2009, while several HUG and MV-HUF meetings were held on a regular basis since the 1990s.
Both HUG and MV-HUF committee members have put together a scientific program including three plenary sessions, two oral communication sessions and poster sessions with a special emphasis this year on Stem Cell Differentiation, siRNAs and the Interplay Between Drug Transporters and Metabolism.
The researchers/doctors/pharmacists/veterinaries interested in hepatocyte cultures and applications may wish to learn more about recent developments in this field. For this purpose, both HUG and MV-HUF committee members and lecture speakers, oral communication speakers and poster authors have agreed to communicate on line under freely accessible conditions their abstracts, slide presentations and poster presentations that were displayed and discussed during this meeting.
Best regards,
